Today's topic is a little different from the classic ones that we deal with on this portal, and as far as I can remember, for the first time in the test we have one monitor. At a time when televisions come with a special PC mode and high-end panels, the question arises more than ever why people buy monitors when they can buy a TV?And of course I'm not referring to gamers who notice the difference between two top monitors, or those who use monitors for work, but to the average user who only occasionally uses the computer in general and mostly for nothing serious like the two situations mentioned.Realistically, today's TVs come with so much compared to ordinary monitors that only - display a picture? In short, they perform the same function as a modern TV, which is probably 2-3 times bigger for the same money?Chances are good you'll buy a Quantum dot, Q Neo LED or similarly branded TV capable of playing HDR10+ videos in 4k resolution with various other extras that I need to Google to decipher that make movies look like they were in the theater. In addition, it has solid speakers, as many slots as you like so that you can connect half of the household appliances to it.And bome fulfills that primary purpose and captures TV programs without connecting to the Internet, and it also has the ability to connect to YouTube, Netflix, Disney, IPTV or whatever. Not to mention the automatic control of brightness and volume, some also have those ambient accessories with LED lighting in the back... And you can still control it from your bed because it has a remote control. And the monitor still only shows the image? It seems like a logical move to choose TV?So what's the trick and why don't people buy a TV instead of a computer monitor? The biggest problem is the response, which is so small on monitors that usually only serious gamers notice the difference between the worst and the best. But using a TV instead of a monitor, even older people know to ask me if it bothers them.Universal word for everything wrong with the display. When you move the mouse, you will see it instantly on the monitor, and with a decent delay on the TV.It literally sometimes takes a good split second to display the action you did.Whether it's the keyboard and typing or moving the mouse. And so you're playing an FPV shooter and an opponent appears next to you, you move your mouse to target them, and the TV decides to do it a bit, with a decent delay. It's not a great situation, I know.It is similar with any other action, and we have another problem with the display.Let's say that the monitors display the image as it is.And TVs enhance that same picture to get a better experience when watching movies, series, TV programs or anything in general. That is why it is more pleasant to watch movies on TV, and perform all other actions on a computer connected to the monitor. Thus, a good TV movie in FullHD will stretch to 4k and add all those missing pixels with the help of artificial intelligence and it will look superb to the average viewer. And the monitor will show everything as it really is.But on the other hand, monitors have an incomparably better color display. For example, you are working in Photoshop on a new catalog of dresses and arranging the photo. The red color of the dress on a good monitor will be exactly as it is in reality, and on TV the same red will probably be extremely saturated and more attractive to the eye, but without any contact with the red that it is in reality.Or let's say you made a 3D model of a toy that you paint in various colors as you like, and it comes out in a completely different color at the factory. Not a great situation? There are hundreds of them, and these are just two fictional examples.Roughly, these are the reasons why two seemingly identical devices, except for size, are used for different purposes. But what if you have a smart monitor that has a remote, the ability to connect to the Internet and software like your TV, so you don't even need a computer for some actions. And when you connect it to that same computer, the image display is just like on a classic monitor, the way it should be?With this introduction, we have easily reached the reason why we are reviewing this device, or rather we are showing you what it can do, because for a real monitor review, we should still have a bit more professional tools than we currently have, but for all those who want something in more detail, we believe that they will manage on the Internet. Thus, Samsung's new M8 monitor brings advantages from both worlds in one device.32", 80 cm wide, the size of smaller TVs and slightly larger monitors.Just so you can use it for both actions. Thus, while it is connected to the computer, it will allow uninterrupted use of the mouse and keyboard without a visible delay, as is the case with TVs.Its response is 4ms, which is noticeable only to a few people, but if you belong to that group of people, then this monitor is not for you.But you don't have to use this monitor with a computer, but as an independent device, actually as a substitute for a TV, because software-wise, that's exactly what it is.Partly also hardware, because it has remote control support. So you can turn off the computer, sit back on the couch and watch, for example, Netflix, which will be started by the monitor, not your computer.True, you can do the same with the help of a computer connected to the monitor, and when it is already in that position, the question arises, what are the benefits?Well, for starters, lower power consumption, because in that case only the monitor works, and not the whole computer.Another advantage is of course the use of a remote control which is incomparably better for this purpose than a wireless mouse and keyboard at such a distance from the monitor. And the best thing is, it can be charged remotely via the USB-C slot! You can see the battery level in the menu of the monitor itself, which we will get to a little later. And believe it or not, more modern processors built into televisions, including this monitor, are adapted exclusively to the actions for which they are primarily intended. Thus, you will play 4k HDR h.265 video without any problems on this monitor, and the same video will freeze even on a generation two older laptop with an i7 processor.Ok, we have concluded that the monitor is smart to some extent, we will come to that and how smart.Subjectively, the M8 looks beautiful.I am delighted with how good and elegant it looks. There is no inscription anywhere on it on the front side that reveals that it is a Samsung monitor, only on the back side. It's very minimalistic in design and I like that.In the lower right corner of the monitor are the receivers for the remote control and the brightness sensors and that's about what you see from the front.Unless you pin the camera. You get it in a package with a monitor as well as a remote control and a power adapter.Surprise I know. There is also a support for the monitor, or more precisely, a stand on which you will mount it with the help of only one Phillips screwdriver.Unfortunately, it does not have a VESA Mount to mount it on a wall or some other stand, but obviously it is not intended for that purpose. And we also have a set of cables that you will need to connect to a computer or laptop, although you can also connect wirelessly. And the camera is just ingeniously designed. It magnetically connects to the back of the monitor so you can't make a mistake when you want to attach it.In fact, all you need to do is place it against the back of the monitor and it will click by itself and stay fixed. You can adjust its tilt independently of the angle of the monitor. If you thought that it is ideal because you can easily remove it when you don't want someone to see you through it, there is no need for that because there is a small cover hidden on the back that you can put over the camera, also magnetically. An ingenious solution that we have seen before, but that does not diminish the value. You can use it in two ways. One is through the monitor itself and the Google Duo application, which is currently the only one that can use it on the monitor, at least as far as we know. The second way is of course via a computer, but in that case the monitor and the computer must be connected via a USB-C cable, or you have to connect the camera directly to the computer via a USB-C cable.Although this first solution is somewhat better. The camera has a FullHD resolution and has some smart options so that it follows you through the frame while you move left and right. As for me, I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality because usually these webcams are toasters, and this one is totally ok.The monitor itself can be adjusted in height by 12 cm and a few degrees of inclination. Not too much, but just enough. There is no possibility of using it in vertical mode, though. It is made of high quality, mostly plastic with a metal base, and the back has a nice texture, as does the support on the back. Our copy is green, and white and blue versions are also available. What's a bit of a problem is that we have a situation almost like a classic monitor, not quite like a TV with a bunch of slots, which I'm a little sorry for. There are two USB-C slots and one micro HDMI, but don't worry, in the package you get a micro HDMI to classic HDMI cable as well as a USB-C to USB-C cable for connecting to a computer, PlayStation or whatever. There is no power supply in the monitor, that's why it's thinner than the Fold, so you have a power brick. It doesn't bother me, and if you get struck by lightning and burn something, you don't have to carry the whole monitor, just a brick or buy another one right away.I hope so at least. So there are advantages and disadvantages of course. One of the USB-C ports also supports power delivery, so if your laptop supports charging via the USB-C slot and 65W is enough, you don't need an additional cable to charge the laptop, which makes this a great combination for both the office and home! And you have a small joystick on the back with which you navigate through the menus if you don't have a remote at hand.Although it is much easier with the remote, and this is only in case of emergency if you forgot to charge it or you lost it somewhere. It's a shame it doesn't have the ability to beep, that would be a nice feature on the remote. What we haven't mentioned so far is that the monitor has built-in speakers that are very decent, better than on classic monitors, worse than on TVs because the monitor housing is only 11 mm thin and lacks a little bass. But still very loud and you have an equalizer in the menu itself to further adjust them, and if you need something better, there is also an easy solution for that.As this is a smart monitor, you can connect it to a Bluetooth speaker or soundbar to improve the sound.Or with Bluetooth headphones, because the chances are that you will probably use this monitor privately, not as a family!Unfortunately, there are no analog outputs, which is something I would have liked. That's right when it comes to a smart monitor, we don't want cables sticking out all over the place.Especially if you still have a Samsung smartphone, so use it for Dex.Along with a mouse and keyboard, you have a mini PC that is powered by your smartphone and displays a monitor.Dex is the mode of operation of Samsung smartphones on larger screens that offers roughly the same basic functions as your PC.You can have Office tools, surf the Internet, use smartphone applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok, play games, watch movies, series... And it all works wirelessly, and you can connect a mouse and keyboard, gamepad or similar via bluetooth, and you don't have to.And you can also connect the smartphone to the monitor by wire, in which case it will be charged at the same time.Otherwise, you can connect the mouse and keyboard directly to this monitor without using a computer or smartphone and use Office 365, just slowly. However, it should be noted that the monitor also receives software updates over the Internet, so it might work a bit faster over time. But back to the very beginning and the differences between TV and monitor. So what about the image display on this monitor and how does it behave?Well, at the same time like a TV, but also like a monitor. As we said, the response is 4ms, so it's ok for games as well. It's not 1ms like gamer monitors, but it's still at least 10 times faster than gamer TVs.But it also only has a 60 Hz refresh rate, so it's not very gamer-like.The VA panel means that when you are the only one looking at it, the colors are excellent, the display of black is excellent.Visibility angles are not the strong point of this panel, admittedly. The 4k resolution is there, which means that it is super sharp, and in order for the colors to be good, you need to do a little calibration. You can do it with the help of an external device or download one of the PC settings that will calibrate it, but it's always much better with the help of Spyder or something similar. The brightness is declared at 400 nits, which is not so bright compared to smartphones, but it is good for one monitor that you use in a closed room.It is even bright enough if you use it next to a window. In short, the display is as it should be on a good monitor, provided you have calibrated it, but when you want to watch movies and series and use the monitor's software for that, there will be support for HDR10+ and the stretching of FullHD movies in 4k via artificial intelligence .So the advantages of both worlds in a way.I mentioned earlier that the software is like on Samsung TVs.It is a Tizen operating system that is not based on Android, but it is smart enough and has developed over the years so that it already has support for a lot of applications. If you are a typical TV user who is looking for all popular streaming services, IPTV applications, maybe radio and the like, this monitor will offer you all that and much more. What Samsung offers on it is the ability to control it with voice commands via the remote control or via the monitor with a previously activated voice command. So, for example, you can tell him to turn up the volume, change the program, turn on Netflix, or you can ask him some general information, such as the height of the cathedral in the capital of Croatia.By default, Bixby is there to answer everything, but you also have the option of using Amazon Alexa.Theoretically, with the help of Smart Things, you can also use this monitor as an ultimate device to control all smart devices in the house, provided that they support certain technologies for this, but since I don't have any of that in my modest environment, I am not able to convey it to you. how does it work.He would probably be able to turn on the lights in the house or order a robot vacuum cleaner to vacuum the living room.In any case, this is a very interesting piece of technology, especially for all those who use one monitor for business and private life.. Very solid as a monitor and a good substitute for a TV!The only thing is that you need to catch TV programs via the Internet or connect a special DVB-T receiver to it.This is actually my biggest complaint about it from an objective point of view, and subjectively I would like it to be a little better calibrated at the start so that the color display for my work is more realistic without the need for additional devices.
