The post-Soviet countries of Central Asia are quite closed from prying eyes in the information field. This is partly due to the fact that the development of communication technologies in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is several years behind Europe and Russia. If we talk about the penetration of the Internet in these countries, then the lag behind global trends is even deeper. The capitals and territories adjacent to them are more or less saturated with access, and the farther from the center, the worse the situation. For example, according to 2017 data, Kyrgyzstan ranked 109 out of 176 countries in terms of the development of information and communication technologies.Among the CIS countries, the last place.Among the main problems, experts identify the minimum number of individual Internet users - 34.5% of the number of residents in the country (average data for the CIS - 65.1%) and households with a computer - 21.4% (average for the CIS - 67.4% ).The bulk of Internet users in Kyrgyzstan are residents of large cities. We talked with Ramazan Nusyr, the head of the Intercorp company, whose main activity is the construction of the "last mile" (from the hub to the inclusion of subscribers), about what forces in Kyrgyzstan are eliminating the digital divide. In general, the Internet sphere in Kyrgyzstan began to develop actively in the early 2000s, and before that, only Kyrgyztelecom had an absolute monopoly. After the beginning of the 2000s, private providers (entrepreneurs, investors) began their activities. And the fiber-optic network began to develop approximately from 2004-2005 along with LTE, 4G.4G communications generally developed rapidly, but then this development somehow quickly faded away. Now there are about 50-80 small ISPs in the country, but most of them provide their services on the basis of wireless Internet using LTE, since it is not expensive.Compared to fiber optic network, the investment is much less.To organize access via LTE, providers are purchased by devices from manufacturers such as Huawei, ZTE.My colleagues and I somehow calculated that the installation of one mast with equipment designed for 350-400 subscribers would cost 10-12 thousand dollars.
